Outdoor lighting & power project
Our client commissioned an extensive landscape garden scheme for their cottage. So the garden could be enjoyed in the evening, the design incorporated extensive lighting to highlight its many wonderful features.
A new sub-main and 17th edition Consumer Unit was installed to feed an existing consumer unit for the house and to service the new outdoor lighting, power and water-feature circuits. Weatherproof Steel-Wired-Armour (SWA) and Weatherproof IP-rated equipment & accessories was used extensively throughout this project to ensure safety & reliability.
The outdoor garden lighting circuits beautifully illuminated the garden features without being intrusive, therefore aesthetically pleasing marine-grade stainless steel spike lights fitted with low-energy warm-light LED lamps were approved and fitted. Drive-over lights with a control system linked to infra-red sensors and timers provided light to the drive & entrance upon approach & departure. Power sockets to the garden, shed and paddock was also provided as part of the project to give flexibility for additional temporary lighting and portable garden equipment.
I was really very pleased with the project carried out by Darren and his colleague Tom Duffin. Having decided to give the garden a complete ‘make-over’, planned and implemented by a professional design company (Jill and Vanessa of Coleby & Faulkner Garden Design & Planting), a key element was to provide appropriate lighting. This has given the garden a magical atmosphere in the evenings, and is a credit to the experience and workmanship of Darren. Innovative and secure lighting has been installed around the garden to highlight its natural features. It has transformed the garden, and the whole project was executed to time and at reasonable cost. An excellent outcome!
New Extension & Garage Electrics
Our client was building a two story extension with integral garage, kitchen, master bedroom with ensuite.
A new 17th edition consumer unit was installed for the new extension, new circuits included lighting, outdoor power, underfloor heating, separate kitchen, garage (installed in protective conduit system) & general power sockets, as well as new boiler & central heating control wiring.
Once the extension was completed, we inspected and consolidated three legacy fuse boxes into a second 17th edition consumer unit to bring the existing house up to current electrical regulations.
CTS electrical’s phased approach ensured minimal disruption to our electrical service during construction of our extension and upgrade of our old fuse boxes. As the extension was a self-build, CTS were very accomodating, showed great flexibility and guidance throughout the project to ensure all our requirements were met, including adding some future-proofing in case our requirements change in the future. We are very pleased with the high standard of workmanship CTS provided and have already recommended their services to other family members.

Re-wire & Consumer Unit upgrade of a 1960′s converted bungerlow
Our client recently purchased a 1960′s converted bungalow and were keen to renovate and bring the dwelling up to current building regulations. Being built in the 60′s the property was wired with no earth to the lighting circuit which needed to be replaced and the current wiring was sub-standard and inflexible for their requirements.
A new 17th Edition (Dual RCD) Consumer Unit was installed with additional circuits for loft conversion including Power, Lighting, Shower and Interlinked Smoke Alarms (fully Part-B compliant). Circuits have been distributed diversely across the new Consumer Unit to balance the load and prevent nuisance tripping. The Consumer Unit has also been designed with future expansion for new extension and further dwelling refurbishment.
Customer energy supply was upgrade from 60A to 100A (via energy distributor) and Earthing arrangements upgraded to the latest regulations.
Crannis Technology Services (CTS) was strongly recommended to us from a family member who previously used their services to wire a new extension. Our home was previously wired in the 1960′s with many failing and unsafe modifications, there was also no RCD protection on any circuit.
CTS installed a safe temporary supply whilst the new work was carried out. They quickly and efficiently removed the old failed wiring and installed & thoroughly tested a new wiring system and consumer unit, on time & on budget. They also contacted our local electricity distributor for us to upgrade our supply and upgrade our earthing as this was below specification.
We will certainly be using CTS again when we build our new extension.

Lighting Fault / Rodent Damage
Our client had been without light in a couple of rooms following rodent intrusion into their loft areas.
Thorough testing & investigation showed evidence some electrical cabling was damaged – this proved to be the case with a couple of lighting cables.
The cables were replaced, moved and re-tested to ensure the circuit was safe once again. We also mechanically protected the cables to help protect against any future damage. As part of the service, we scheduled a safety visit 4 weeks later to check the installation and install an electronic rodent deterrent in the loft area.
We got Darren in to fix some rat-gnawed cable and install some ducting to prevent further chewing. He was very thorough, checking and testing everything as he went to make sure it was safe, offering advice on what the best value solution was and coming back to re-test things a couple of weeks later too.
He is knowledgeable and thorough and wants the best for his customers. We’ve already recommended him to others!

Electrical Inspection & Consumer Unit Upgrade
Our client contacted us as they were worried their electrical installation wasn’t safe as there had been many modifications since installed 30 years ago, and they were looking to update it to current regulations. We inspected the electrical system and with exception to the installation not meeting current regulations and having no RCD protection, found very little wrong and it was generally in very good condition.
On informing our client of the good news, they instructed us to fit a larger 17th edition consumer unit with additional circuits for a new outside socket & lighting they had always wanted, as well as a new interlinked smoke & heat alarm circuit. Additional sockets were also added & their boiler controls were separated onto a new dedicated circuit rather than being supplied via the existing socket ring main.
The work was carried out during the 4 days they were away on holiday, this also included arranging a qualified plasterer to assist us installing the new cables into the walls & re-plastering to ensure a professional finish.
We are very happy with the work & service CTS Electrical have provided us. Their inspection was very thorough, well documented and easy to understand. The fuse box upgrade to a new consumer unit was a natural progression, and it made sense to add some extra’s we’ve always wanted at the same time. Their work is very clean and tidy, and we’re happy to continually recommend their services to others.

CAT5e Structured Cabling Installation in Swindon
Our client was opening a new sales office and required a reliable structured cabling system to support their new IP infrastructure. A new CAT5e structured cabling system with 48 new CAT5e data outlets were installed to ensure a solid & reliable infrastructure system with redundancy and no single point of failure.
To keep disruption to a minimum, some installation work was completed outside normal office hours in order to keep the business operating smoothly with no downtime.
The structured cabling system was installed & handed over to the IT manager on schedule, fully tested and certified with a copy of the test results. This system also benefits from our 10-year warranty.
We used Darren for a CAT5e structured cabling project which he completed brilliantly.
His work was at the highest standard and completed within a quick time frame with very little to no disturbance to any of the employees in the business.
Can highly recommend and will definitely use for future projects.
